We all know how important it is to brush our teeth twice a day. But something we often overlook is how important it is to use the right toothbrush while doing so. Believe it or not, but the type of brush you use can have a major impact on your oral health.

Let’s look at what Dr. Cauleen Stepp recommends you look for when picking out your next toothbrush.

Soft bristles

The best way to remove plaque and other debris from your mouth is by using a brush that has soft bristles. Harder bristles have a tendency to push debris further into the cracks in between teeth, instead of teasing them out. Soft bristles are also far better on your enamel.

Round heads

Have you ever wondered why the brush our team uses here at Stepp Family Dentistry is round? That’s because small, round-headed brushes are much more effective at reaching areas of the mouth that are hard to clean.

Powered brushes are best

Electric brushes with electronic round heads are the best at cleaning because they’re essentially what we use here at our office to clean your teeth. These move in circular motions – the best for cleaning teeth – and are particularly effective at removing plaque.
